Designing Spaces for Better Sleep: Light, Temperature and Acoustics

A healthy day begins with a healthy night’s sleep. Sleep science shows that sleep quality depends on far more than personal habits. The space we sleep in is one of the most powerful determinants of sleep quality.

Light and Circadian Lighting

  • Morning: Cool white (5500–6500K) — to activate cortisol.
  • Evening: Warm white to amber (below 2700K) — to preserve melatonin.
  • Night: Blackout (below 0.1 lux) — for deep sleep.

Thermal Comfort

The ideal temperature range for the body to fall asleep is 18–20°C.
